Throw away the shoulds

"Shoulding myself in the foot."

An old friend of mine, Perry, came up with this phrase, and I must admit I rather like it. When I use the should word, I tend to feel a bit despondent. Should feels horrible. A bit like life is flattened and I missed the mark yet again. It is the gap between where and who I am and where and who I should be. And it's totally made up. "Should" should be banned from the dictionary. (haha!)

“Should is a futile word. It's about what didn't happen. It belongs in a parallel universe. It belongs in another dimension of space.”

― Margaret Atwood,

So I am replacing should with could. Could feels much more open, like there's a choice, a possibility. It is full of potential.

And if you're thinking "But will I actually do anything then?" you could try this.

Replace should with could.
And then when you decide - when you are ready - replace could with willl.
If you want to ensure that you will, add when.
If you're still not sure that you will, add when and what you will do.
If you're still feeling a bit uncertain. Ask what do you need to help you do this?

Eg I should sort out my car insurance.
I could sort out my car insurance.
I will sort out my car insurance.
I will sort out my car insurance tomorrow after breakfast.
I will sort out my car insurance tomorrow after breakfast, I will use that comparison website to get a quote and then buy it.
What do I need to do this? I need some advice to ensure I get a good insurance company. Who can give me this advice? I will ask X/I will go to money saving expert site (well it is great).

PS You could go to yoga :-)
